To Infinity and Beyond

It has been one year and 5 months since I took over as the Executive Director of the nascent Tampa Innovation Alliance and while we have made great strides forward, it is but only one bit of a much larger & truly transformational journey. I use the word “ journey” because there is no final end point. I dare say we will not reach a culminating destination, no Fukuyama conceived “End of History”, for as we have witnessed during the digital revolution – technological change is but a precursor to even more epic change. It never seems to end, but instead morphs into ever more interesting and innovative concepts that create greater promise, but also enormously complex societal dilemmas that demand thoughtful analysis, fearless exploration and ultimately “ wicked” solutions.
The question then is basic. Where do we fit in to this journey? Do we help create this new future here at home or allow others to lead and we simply follow? Much has been written about the uneven geographic landscape of transformational economic development and many hands have been wrung over the brain drain of our youth to other more alluring destinations.
Sharpe Bytes is an unvarnished exploration of this landscape and a clarion call to the Tampa Bay community to think big and act accordingly. Over the next 18 months I will be networking relentlessly, exploring every nook and cranny of our own burgeoning Innovation Economy, as I help the Tampa Innovation Alliance builds its own Innovation District in partnership with Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa, Temple Terrace, and the state of Florida. I will also be traveling to the some of the most economically prolific regions in America to learn first hand what makes them tick.

Sure, you can choose to sit on the sidelines & “believe whatever you want to believe” (That means taking “The Blue pill”) or you can enter the Matrix, (take the red pill) and see “how deep the rabbit-hole goes”.
