TAMPA – Tampa !p (Innovation Partnership) will bring industry leaders, career seekers, and community organizations to Crossover Church (1235 E. Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33612) on October 25, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. to share details about finding and hiring qualified tech workers in a summit called How to Hire Tech Tech Talent in Tampa Bay. The event is free and includes coffee and light breakfast.
Keeping up with the latest tech innovations and employing the staff needed to utilize new technology and remain competitive is challenging for employers. Competition to recruit and hire and costly training make it difficult to fill essential roles. Then, there is the challenge of employee retention.
How to Hire Tech Tech Talent in Tampa Bay will include discussions on marketing efforts for employers along with best practices and resources, such as TechHire, for recruiting tech talent locally. TechHire is a federally funded job training program that can cover the costs of lab fees, tuition, and certification for critical tech skills like Comp TIAA+, Java programming, mobile applications development, web development, and even medical skills such as phlebotomy.
“If we don’t capitalize on the local tech talent we have, they’ll go somewhere else to find opportunities and the businesses who need them might follow. We have the tech talent here. We have innovative companies and start-up businesses here who need that talent. We have to make sure the pieces fit together and help them connect. Summits like this and programs like TechHire do that and help our innovation district thrive,” said Tampa !p Chief Potential Officer, Mark Sharpe.
Speakers and topics at the summit include startup enthusiast and talent expert, Mark Sunderlin, who serves as managing director for Full Stack Talent with a presentation about hiring technical talent over social media; Michael Hamilton, TechHire program coordinator with CareerSource.
Tampa Bay explaining the TechHire program; Gabriel Yeager, apprenticeship employee recruiter with St. Petersburg College discussing apprenticeships; Course Align, Inc. founder, Robert Blacklidge discussing the state of tech talent; and founder and CEO of BioscanR, Tracy Ingram.
